Senior Pastor
Rev. James H. Rockey

Pastor Rockey grew up in Florida and was greatly influenced by his parents who lived life daily in service to the Lord, and by his childhood pastor (whom he still looks to for counsel).  In 1985 he graduated from Concordia College - Austin with a BA in Communications while also fulfilling the requirements for Seminary.  He married Martha Palmer of Fort Worth in 1985.  They are the parents to two amazing young woman, Elizabeth & Julia.

After college, Pastor was led to delay attending Seminary and instead worked for the State of Texas for two years and then worked as a Claims Adjustor and Claims Manager for Allstate for eight years in Texas and Florida. Pastor loved the work he did and helping people.  He was also very active as a lay leader in their congregation in Tallahassee serving on the Council, leading outreach and leading small group Bible studies.  He and Martha moved to St. Louis in 1994 where he attended Seminary and graduated in 1998. His first Call was to Our Savior - Nashville where he served as Associate Pastor and then Sole Pastor until taking a Call to Fort Myers.  While at Our Savior, he was integral in the building of the elementary school and new sanctuary, emphasis on small groups, local and international missions and start of contemporary worship.

He then served Zion Fort Myers, a congregation of over 1,000 members as Associate Pastor.  There he guided the congregation in the opening of a Preschool, introduced them to international missions, leading teams to Honduras, Dominican Republic and the Cayman Islands.  He was also challenged to grow the congregation through small groups and local hands-on mission projects.  In 2007 the Florida-Georgia District Called him as Mission Developer to Oxford, Florida (The Villages).  The ministry began with 13 people and today has grown to worshiping 140 a week, have more than 50% of their members in Bible studies and have taken eight mission teams to Central America, India, and St. Louis.  In September 2017, construction will begin on an Early Childhood Center that will serve 100 children, and will open debt free after a 18 month campaign.

Pastor loves to help people discover their gifts and experience the joy of serving others while connecting them to Jesus.  He seeks to model such a life of witness and service evident in serving on the Board of Directors for Lutheran Services of Florida, Love In the Name of Christ, United Way, his local Ministerial Association and as Circuit Visitor for the past 9 years.  With the Apostle Paul, he is passionate about loving people and living in a way that reflects how "Christ love compels us!"
